Mathematics
Mathematics is an essential tool for better understanding the world in which we live. Mathematics is a tool that prepares us for careers in many diverse areas such as nursing, accounting, medicine, education, law, engineering, computer science, business, economics, statistics, chemistry, the social sciences, political science, aviation, the automotive industry, communications and even the performing arts. The mathematics department provides the courses that are needed to complete the first two years of a four year degree in mathematics, science, or engineering, provides prerequisites for all of the major programs of study offered at the college, and helps students to become efficient in computational skills, problem solving and critical thinking.
We offer a wide range of courses from basic mathematics to differential equations. We teach the courses using a variety of delivery methods. We help to ensure the success of our students by providing them with placement information before they enroll in a mathematics class. Our innovative mathematics faculty strives to meet the needs of the students, to provide an environment in which all students are comfortable and able to learn, to develop an appreciation for the beauty, power and usefulness of mathematics within our students; all the while maintaining academic integrity.

Many careers will require transfer to a university for a four-year degree. Opportunities include finance, statistics, mathematician and more. Not only do many professions and majors (engineering, doctors, physics, nurses, computer science, actuarial science, etc.) require courses in mathematics, but the analytical and problem-solving skills students learn in mathematics can apply to all disciplines.
Pay
Wages vary by field. Those with strong math and analytical skills are often in demand, so likewise, wages will be higher than average.
